It's Almost Over :(
I am writing part of this blog as we make our way to Paris on the Eurostar! I am more than excited to see Paris! We are going to the Louvre and to Notre Dame to visit. Also, we will be doing a bus tour of the city. I hope to take a lot of pictures while we are there. I'm not sure if we will be able to get off the bus though to take pictures but I hope we do so we don't have to hurry and take pictures while we are moving. I am worried about not knowing the language. It has been easy in London because everyone speaks English but I am not sure if everyone speaks English and I sure don't know any French. It should be okay though because the majority of the time we will be as a group and not left on our own. We have been in a tunnel for a while now so we could under the English Channel right now! I won't be able to post this before we get to Paris so I will try to add some thoughts about the trip when we return.
Our time in London has been amazing!! I love the city and how accessible everything is. The tube has been really easy to use. The buses are more confusing so we have been avoiding those. We have done do much in the week we have been here. We've been to see the play Billy Elliott, which I absolutely loved! I would love to see it again. We have been to see the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London and to the cliffs of Dover where we also put our feet in the English Channel. At St. Paul's cathedral and Westminster Abbey we went allowed to take pictures which I didn't like because those were two of the places I was most excited to see. One of my most favorite days has to be yesterday. In the morning we went through Parliament. It was very interesting to see how it works and to compare it to our Congress. Then we went to the Florence Nightengale museum. I am not a nursing major but I found this museum interesting. After that we went and rode the London Eye and that was amazing! In our capsule there were only about 10 of us and all from our group so we weren't with strangers. The views were stunning!! We were free after that so me and a couple of girls walked around Trafalger Square, Picadilly Circus, and Leicester Square. Tomorrow is a free day which is nice because we can take our time doing what we want. Then on Tuesday we are on our way back to America! I am ready to go home but I am not quite ready to leave. This time has been amazing and I am glad that I was able to take part on this trip.
Cheers from the Eurostar!

Today was by far the most surreal day of this trip for me. We went to Paris for the day and were lucky enough to go to the Louve and Notre Dame Cathedral. We also saw the Eiffel Tower and the Champs de Lisease. I think the most culturally different thing about France was the language. Though I've taken a year of French, It was still interesting to be somewhere where English was not the first language. I've never experienced that before and honestly really liked being completely immersed in the Parisian culture. Outside of the Notre Dame Cathedral were relief sculptures that illustrated the religious stories and lessons that commoners going on Pilgrimages wouldn't have been able to read. I learned about these sculptures in art history and it was simply amazing to actually see them in person. I was also astonished to see the original stained glass windows in the cathedral. It makes you realize that you are literally standing in front of hundreds of years of history. Paris was like nothing I've ever seen before and I hope I can go back some day! Janet
Shakespeare
I can honestly say that before this evening I had no interest in Shakespeare. I thought the play “Measure for Measure” would be impossible to understand and I was somewhat dreading the evening. After the evening commenced though, there were something that completely changed my preconceived thoughts. Upon walking into the swan theatre I realized that I was seeing a Shakespeare play at a Shakespeare theatre and there was something about that, which got me excited and felt meaningful. After the play started, although somewhat changed for shocking effect, it was astounding. I was moved by the performance and really appreciated the experience. It was really cool to me how they altered it so it would have the same effect and how the play was understandable even though I didn’t really understand the words they were speaking. Overall, I’m glad I was forced to do this, because otherwise I would have missed out on a truly amazing experience because I was too close minded to understand or appreciate it. It was a phenomenal and once in a lifetime experience.
Billy Elliot
Billy Elliot was one of the things I was looking forward to most on this trip, and it proved to be as amazing as I expected. Had I not been there I don’t think I would have ever even imagined how good of dancers those kids were. Although the lead ended up hurt, the understudy was just as , if not more amazing. The tap dancing and the singing was some of the best I have ever seen at a theatre. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and thought that the musical was amazing, and a great experience

So far, being across seas has been amazing. I think one of my favorite days was our visit to parliament and the London eye. I honestly was not as excited for parliament as I have been for other things, but it was surprisingly captivating. Not only was the building beautiful, but the history and systems set there are so interesting. For instance, at noon on Wednesday the Prime Minister has to go through a nerve wracking questioning session. And the members of Parliament must be seated in a certain area in order to participate in debates so they often come early for prayers to secure a seat. I love how England has stayed so traditional and tied to it's roots. I think that's what makes the county so rich and beautiful. The London Eye was a great way to end the morning. It was a wonderful view of the city and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Looking forward to our day trip to Paris! Janet
Tonight is our last night in England, and I'm so upset to be leaving. I never thought I would have gotten as much out of this trip as I did. I got to see so much wonderful art, that I actually appreciated, learned a lot about English history and got to go to Paris. I saw so many things I never would have gotten to had I come on my own. My favorite moments of the trip would be seeing Stonehenge, riding on the London Eye, and all of the amazing museums. I have gained so much appreciate for things I never really cared about at home. I think its so amazing seeing things that are older than I could ever imagine. I couldn't even fathom what a building over a hundred years old looks like, and over here there seems to be a building that old on every block. Its so beautiful and I am so sad to be leaving tomorrow morning. This trip has been more than amazing, and I couldn't of asked for more from this trip.
