Englanders! How are you preparing for the trip?

Its Sunday afternoon and it still hasn't hit me that we leave for England on Tuesday. I haven't packed anything yet, but I know Monday night will be crazy. My mom is extremely jealous that I'm going on this trip because England is her favorite destination. Im going to try and pack light, only things I need. It's going to be hard decideing how many jackets to bring. I'm a little worried about the flight, I've never been on a plane eight hours before. Hopefully my iPad will keep me entertained for the majority of time. It would be great if I get to sit with a friend, this would definitely make the flight more enjoyable. I'm most excited to visit Abbey Road, where the Beatles recorded all their albums. I can't wait to visit Paris too and try their great foods. I know this trip will be legendary, Tuesday can't come soon enough!

I agree. I feel like I have waited so long and I have not realized that I will be on a plane in a couple of days for eight hours. It will be worth it. I have not started packing yet, but I will get around to it here soon enough.

In 24hrs we will be sitting in the Charlotte airport waiting to board our flight to Gatwick! The time has gone so fast, but so slow at the same time since we registered for this course. It has finally arrived!!! It has been wonderful getting to know everyone so far during the past 4 days before we take off. I get the vibe that we will all have a wonderful time and get together well. Researching the history, culture, and health care in England these past few days has made me even more excited to explore such an amazing place firsthand. I will be going there with an open mind and up for learning and experiencing as much as possible in the quick 2 weeks we will be there. I will be focusing more on the nursing and medical aspect since that is my degree, however I will be taking in all the sights to see! I expect that understanding them will be difficult at times because of their dialect/accent. Also, immersing myself in their culture will be different and interesting because they eat different foods, they drive on the other side of the road, and many other differences but yet many similarities too.
GOOD LUCK packing everyone and I'm excited to take on this lifetime experience with each and every one of you!!!!!

It’s hard to believe that in less than 24 hours we’ll be on our way to England. So far the biggest challenge has been trying to pack my suitcase. I have never been a light packer. I keep hoping that my suitcase will grow an extra inch or so but so far it has not. I cannot believe all of the important sites we get to see on this trip. I’m really looking forward to touring Stonehenge and the city of Bath. I hope from this trip I gain a even greater appreciation of nursing. Visiting Florence Nightingale’s museum and gravesite will hopefully give me a better understand of the roots of my career choice. I’m very curious to see how nursing differs between the U.S. and the England. While we touched on it in class, it’ll be great to see their medical practice first hand. Perhaps I’ll be inspired to use some of their health practices to improve or alter ours. Our day trip to Paris was an unexpected surprise. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to go back to that beautiful city. When I was there last time, over five years ago, I really enjoyed wandering through the Louvre but that art museum is so big I barely scratched the surface. I have always planned on traveling to England, I just didn’t realize I would the opportunity so young life. This is a once in lifetime opportunity and I intend to make the most of it.

It is so exciting that in less than 24 hours we will be in England! A different country, culture, food, and environment; I am so thrilled to explore this captivating place! Last night, as I was packing I could not figure out what all to bring. It is difficult to pack two weeks of endless opportunities in one suitcase. I cannot wait to get to know everyone better and experience a beautiful new place. These last couple days of classes have led me to become more educated in the history, culture, and healthcare of England, and I cannot wait to experience this firsthand. I am hoping to gain new insight into the healthcare aspect of England while we are abroad, while visiting the Florence Nightingale Museum and St. Thomas Hospital. I also expect to become more cultured through attending the plays. Instead of looking at pictures of the monuments we will be able to see them up close! I am most looking forward to Stonehenge and visiting the city of Bath. Good luck packing everyone. See you at 11:45 tomorrow!!! Let’s have a safe trip that will last in our memories for the rest of our lives! –Megan Foley

Less than seventeen hours until we meet at the airport and I already know that it is going to be a long night. I have been ready for this moment since the last payment and can hardly believe how near it is. I have packed and repacked almost every day since Thursday yet I still know that I am forgetting something important-my mom would say that it is her. This will be my first trip out of the country without a member of my family and I am curious to see how I, and they, handle the separation.
Stonehenge is definitely the place that I am most looking forward to visiting. I would love to get a picture standing right next to the stones. Coming in a close second is the visit to Paris. It, like London, is a city that has been on my “bucket list” to explore.
As far as plans while we are in Stratford and London, I hope to do everything that the city offers. From trying mincemeat pie to riding the London Eye, I am all for adventure and can’t wait to see what the next two weeks have in store!!

I cannot believe that we are actually leaving for England tomorrow! I have been excited for this trip ever since I heard about it last year, but I cannot believe it is actually happening. It is finally starting to sink in. I have been out of the country twice (Aruba and Canada), but I have never been to Europe. I can hardly contain my excitement. I have had so much fun getting to know everyone and learning more about England’s history, culture, and healthcare over the past four days. I cannot wait to learn even more when we are fully immersed. I know I will be in awe of the amazing sites and monuments we are going to see. I am extremely excited to meet people in England and hear their accents. I can’t wait to discover some of the differences in language (like bin for trash can and football instead of soccer). I am really looking forward to seeing the Canterbury Cathedral, the London Eye, and Warwick Castle, just to name a few. I’m also extremely excited that we are taking a trip to Paris. I took French in high school and college and have always wanted to go to France. I am excited to see all of the things I’ve learned about for years, like the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Louvre. However, I think I am most excited for the plays and musicals we are going to see while in England. I have never seen Measure for Measure, Comedy of Errors, or Billy Elliot, and I am definitely looking forward to it. I am also planning on going to see other shows during our free time. The hard part is going to be deciding what to see! I cannot wait to get to know you all better and create some amazing memories (and take lots of pictures!).

A few months ago, I was signed up for the SYE Africa course and I was so excited to go, because how many chances would I get to go to Africa? When the Africa course got cancelled, I was disapointed to say the least, but I still wanted to travel somewhere. To be honest, I had never really considered going to England because it seemed so similar to the U.S. After these few days of classes, though, I have a whole new appreciation for England. I have really enjoyed learning about England's history and culture and I'm beyond excited to see it all in person. I'm probably most excited to see Stonehenge, just because it's so old and holds so much history. I know that once I get over the jet lag, everything we see will be awesome. I can't wait to get to know all of you and spend an amazing 2 weeks together. See you all tomorrow!

I cannot believe that we are leaving for England tomorrow!! I have never travelled outside of the United States except to Canada. So this is a first for me and I am so excited! When I signed up for this class last Spring I thought that it was so far away but finally it has arrived. I am really looking forward to this new experience. I'm can't wait to be immersed into a new culture. After researching the Tower of London in my travel entry, I am very excited to tour it and see the Crowned Jewels, the White Tower, and the Beefeaters. I also cannot wait to ride the London Eye and see Buckingham Palace. We are going to visit so many amazing, historic, and beautiful places on this trip. Our day trip to Paris will be a good experience, I'll have to see how much French I remember from high school! I look forward to spending the next two weeks with all of you! See you in the morning!

Like everyone else I have talked to from class, it is really only begininning to sink in now that we will be leaving for England tomorrow. My roommate Christine and I found out about the trip last year at the International Studies Fair. Although I had originally been interested in the SYE trip to Austria, after talking with Dr. Pryor-McCann I was ready to go that day! My only previous international travel experience was a two week trip to China last year with Otterbein's Concert Choir. It was an amazing experience that I will remember forever and I have no dout that this trip to England (and Paris) will be just as incredible. I did learn from the trip to China how to not overpack, so hopefully I will have plenty of room for souvenirs! I cannot decide what I am most excited to see (probably Stonehenge, the Eiffel Tower, and Buckingham Palace would top the list), but I am most excited about being able to experience a new culture. I'm glad that I've been able to get to know everyone in the class better over the past few days and I am so excited to spend the next two weeks with such a fun group!

We have studied the culture, healthcare, art, history, food, and landscape of a country across the Atlantic Ocean, and soon what we have studied and presented will be right in front of us; England here we come! I am most excited about seeing Florence Nightingale’s House and the landscape of where much of my major has its roots and historical imprint. Additionally, I cannot wait to take the day trip to Paris. I feel that this journey is going to be an amazing experience and I appreciate how each of us in these past few days of class have blended our interests and talents to research and study much of England. We will be saying goodbye to America for a short time, but will be embracing a new culture and scenery…which is bound to be life-changing. This will be my first time traveling out of the country and I hope it will be one of many adventures of discovering other cultures and people in the world and appreciating the diversity across our earth.

Finally just got done the last of my packing. I am super excited to leave and get to England. I am really look forward to get introduced to the culture. Although I have been to England once before, I am really excited to learn more that I did not on my previous trip. There is so much to see and do there! England is a wonderful place with so much to experience. We are really going to have a wonderful time, in a wonderful place. I cannot wait for this journey to get on its way.

It is offically the night before we leave and I am so excited that I can't sleep. I have now gone through my suitcase I think three times to ensure that I haven't forgotten something. I signed up for this class simply because I wanted to travel somewhere. I like, Diana, hadn't really thought much about England before. They just seemed so similar to us that I never had much of an interest. I was however, very wrong! I have had so much fun learning about their history and culture and I feel that I have a new appreciation for England. I feel like I have been waiting for this trip for so long and now it's finally time and I can hardly believe we are leaving tomorrow! I am so excited to see the white cliffs of dover and stonehedge, but I think i am most excited about Bath. I have looked at a lot of different pictures and it looks absolutely beautiful. I have my camera ready and I even bought a new SD card so I can take lots and lots of pictures. My favorite part of this course so far was learning about the history, especially the Elizabethan and Victorian eras. I look forward to seeing the different architecture of the times and can't wait to capture it all for my scrapbook project. I am so excited that I get to experience England with all of you and can't wait for tomorrow to come!!!

It's Tuesday morning and I still can't believe that I am actually going to England. I had originally signed up for a different SYE travel class to India at the end of last year, and I was devastated when I found out that not enough people had signed up for the class. Let me tell you, there were a couple days where I was freaking out because I thought that I wouldn't be able to travel for my SYE credit. Luckily this class still had openings, and I was not going to pass up England.
I'm pretty much packed up except for the last few things, and I am so pumped to board the plane later. I know the plane ride is going to be rough, the only other time I've ridden in an airplane was on a four hour trip to Dallas, Texas. However, I'm really hoping that I can fall asleep and cut out some of those long hours. I'm also hoping that we have a plane that has at least some leg room. I am NOT dealing with someone who wants to keep reclining their seat into me for 8 hours. (That happened on the return Dallas trip)
I am looking forward to seeing so many new places and taking LOTS of photographs. I will be taking two cameras (a film and digital) so no one judge me please as I do really need both. :) I hope to try out some new foods and possibly spot the TARDIS in London (that is a Doctor Who reference for those who don't know). I can't wait to make so many new memories and create great stories with you all. See you soon!

We're sitting in the airport, only an hour and a half until until our trip commences. I am extremely nervous but excited at the same time! I have never been out of the country, and this experience is something I'm greatly looking forward to. After researching England the past week, I have seen so much of England and how beautiful of a place it is.There is so much history and culture related to every place that we will be seeing, and I can't wait for this amazing time. Although I had planned to be in Africa for J-term up until this November and was really excited to experience a place so different from the US, after learning as much as we have about England, I have realized how different the culture is there, and gained appreciation for it. So here we go, can't wait to blog more about this trip!

So sitting in the airport listening to everyone trying to stay entertained. I'm excited but at the same time bored. I just want to get on the plane and go already. This waiting thing is complete torture!
